Abu Mena, Archaeological site in Egypt
Abu Mena was once a town, monastery complex and Christian pilgrimage center.
It was built in the late 3rd century AD and named after the martyr Saint Menas of Alexandria.
Saint Menas became associated with healing miracles, leading pilgrims to seek cures at his shrine.
Unfortunately, agricultural efforts have led to a water table rise threatening the site's structural integrity.
The site has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage in Danger since 2001.
