Ponte Vecchio, Historic bridge in Florence
Ponte Vecchio, the oldest and iconic medieval stone closed-spandrel segmental arch bridge over the Arno River.
Constructed in 1335, designed by Taddeo Gaddi or Neri di Fioravanti, replaced an ancient Roman crossing.
Renowned for its shops built along it that historically include jewelers, art dealers and souvenir sellers.
Part of the Vasari Corridor and also housed the Medici family's private passage above it.
Surviving many floods and WWII, it is the only Florence bridge not destroyed during the war.
