Yaxha, Archaeological site in Guatemala.
Yaxha is an ancient Mayan city with more than 500 structures located in the Petén Department of Guatemala.
Occupied as a ceremonial center from approximately 800 BC to 250 AD, Yaxha was at its peak during the Early Classic period (c. AD 250–600).
Several architectural and artistic styles are present in its ruins which were influenced by Teotihuacan far to the northwest.
Yaxha is popularly known for its impressive sunset views over Lake Yaxha.
The 'Topoxte' causeway in Yaxha is the only known example of a navigable Mayan causeway.
