Stonehenge is a massive stone monument located on a chalky plain north of the modern-day city of Salisbury, England.
Constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC, Stonehenge is perhaps the world’s most famous prehistoric monument.
It has been a legally protected Scheduled Ancient Monument since 1882 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.
The site is managed by English Heritage and the surrounding land is owned by the National Trust.
Despite numerous theories, the purpose and methods used to construct Stonehenge remain a mystery.
