Elagabalium, Ancient temple in Italy
The Elagabalium was a lavishly adorned temple in ancient Rome.
Erected by Emperor Elagabalus, the temple was dedicated to the sun god El-Gabal.
The Elagabalium represented both the El-Gabal worship and the excesses of its namesake emperor.
Ruins of the Elagabalium can be found in modern-day Rome.
The temple housed a sacred black stone representing the deity El-Gabal.
