The Virginia General Assembly is the legislative body of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Established in 1619, it is the oldest continuous law-making body in the New World.
Its bicameral body consists of the Virginia House of Delegates and the Senate.
It meets annually in Richmond, the state capital.
The assembly was initially known as the House of Burgesses when it was first established.
