Stone Town, UNESCO World Heritage Site in Zanzibar, Tanzania
Stone Town, also known as Mji Mkongwe, is the old part of Zanzibar City, the main city of Zanzibar, in Tanzania.
The city got its name from the coral stone buildings that were built there predominantly in the 19th century.
Stone Town is renowned for its melting pot of Arab, Persian, Indian and European cultural elements.
It's best explored by foot, with several narrow alleyways to discover.
It's the only functioning historical city in East Africa.
