Pearl Islands, Archipelago in Panama
The Pearl Islands are a group of 200 or more islands and islets lying about 30 miles off the Pacific coast of Panama.
Famous for being a Spanish pearl hunting territory, these islands were where the notorious pirate Henry Morgan planned some of his expeditions in the 17th century.
Several reality TV shows have been filmed on the Pearl Islands, including multiple seasons of 'Survivor'.
Regular ferry services are available from Panama City to Contadora Island, one of the most visited islands of the archipelago.
The Pearl Islands are home to the globally endangered hawksbill sea turtle, which nests on its sandy beaches.
