Redwood National and State Parks, National parks in California

The Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) are a complex trio of federally and state-managed parks that protect 45% of all remaining coast redwood old-growth forests.

These parks were created in 1968 to provide protection to the trees which had been extensively logged during the nineteenth century.

The parks received World Heritage Site designation from UNESCO in 1980 due to their cultural significance.

Visitors can enjoy camping, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and stargazing among other outdoor activities.

Home to the tallest tree on earth, the Hyperion.
