The Basilica of Saint-Denis is a large medieval abbey church in the city of Saint-Denis, now a northern suburb of Paris.
Dating back to the 12th century, it is considered to be the first Gothic church.
The basilica became a place of pilgrimage and the burial place of the French Kings, with nearly every king from the 10th to the 18th centuries being buried there.
It's easily accessible via the Paris Metro.
The basilica is distinguished for its architecture and for being the first major structure of which a substantial part was designed and built in the Gothic style.
