Collezioni egittologiche dell'Università di Pisa, museum in Italy

Welcome to the Egyptian Collections "Edda Bresciani" of the University of Pisa, located at Via San Frediano 12 in Pisa. These collections are a remarkable display of ancient Egyptian artifacts and are open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday. The collections were established in 1962 when Laura Birga Picozzi, a descendant of Ippolito Rosellini, donated the first set of relics from excavation campaigns conducted by her illustrious ancestor. Another significant collection was added in 1964, which belonged to Michela Schiff Giorgini, originating from excavations sponsored by the University of Pisa in Sudan. Since then, the collections have been enriched with further donations, targeted acquisitions, and excavation and research campaigns carried out in Egypt by the University of Pisa. The various artifacts from Egypt, Nubia, and northern Africa have significant educational and documentary value. From July 16, 2021, the Egyptian Collections have been named after Edda Bresciani, an emeritus professor at the University of Pisa and a world-renowned Egyptologist who passed away in November 2020. The Egyptian Collections "Edda Bresciani" offer visitors a unique opportunity to explore the rich history and culture of ancient Egypt. The collections include a wide range of artifacts such as statues, sarcophagi, mummies, papyri, and other objects that provide insight into the daily life, religion, and art of ancient Egyptians. Visitors can also learn about the excavation and research methods used by archaeologists to uncover these treasures. The collections are housed in a beautiful building that has been specifically designed to showcase the artifacts. The exhibition space is divided into several sections, each dedicated to a specific period or theme of ancient Egyptian history. The displays are accompanied by informative labels and descriptions in both Italian and English, making it easy for visitors to understand the significance of each artifact. Visitors can also take advantage of guided tours, which are available in both Italian and English. The guides are knowledgeable and passionate about ancient Egyptian history and will provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the collections. The tours are an excellent way to explore the collections and learn more about the fascinating world of ancient Egypt. In conclusion, the Egyptian Collections "Edda Bresciani" at the University of Pisa are a must-visit for anyone interested in ancient Egyptian history and culture. With its extensive collection of artifacts, informative displays, and knowledgeable guides, this museum offers a unique and unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.
