Asakusa Shrine, Shinto shrine in Tokyo
Asakusa Shrine, also known as Sanja-sama, is a Shinto shrine located in the Asakusa district of Tokyo, Japan.
Established in 1649 during the Edo period, it honors the three men who founded the Senso-ji Temple.
It's one of the most famous Shinto shrines in Tokyo, hosting the annual Sanja Matsuri, one of Tokyo's three great Shinto festivals.
The shrine is open to visitors all year round and admission is free.
Unlike many other structures in the area which were destroyed during World War II, Asakusa Shrine survived.
