It is Tokyo's oldest temple, and one of its most significant, founded in 628 AD.
The temple is dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon, also known as Guanyin or the Goddess of Mercy.
The temple is a few steps away from Asakusa Station, accessible by the Ginza Subway Line, Tobu Skytree Line and Nikko Line.
The temple is associated with the Tendai sect of Buddhism, but became independent after World War II.
