Angkor Thom, the last capital of the Khmer Empire, is a large area containing numerous temples and other buildings.
Established in the late twelfth century by King Jayavarman VII, Angkor Thom was the center of his massive building program.
The city includes many iconic structures such as the Bayon Temple, known for its multitude of serene faces carved into stone.
Visitors can explore the site on foot, by bicycle, or by hiring a tuk-tuk driver.
Unlike many ancient cities, Angkor Thom was not abandoned and has been continuously inhabited since its foundation.
