Dedicated in 1922, the memorial has been the site of many famous speeches, including Martin Luther King's 'I Have a Dream'.
It is considered a symbol of the ideals of American democracy and equality.
There is no charge to visit the Lincoln Memorial, which is open 24 hours a day.
The Memorial features a statue of Lincoln seated, which is unusually large at 19 feet tall.
