Belcourt Castle, Castle in Newport, Rhode Island
Belcourt of Newport is a former summer cottage designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt for Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont and located on Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island.
Constructed from 1891 to 1894, Belcourt was intended to be used for only six to eight weeks of the year.
The castle features a unique combination of French Renaissance and Gothic decor on the inside, while the outside is reminiscent of Louis XIII's hunting lodge at Versailles.
Today, Belcourt is open to the public for tours, showcasing its rich history and architectural beauty.
Belcourt is notable for having been built with extensive stables on the first floor, reflecting Belmont's interest in coaching, a popular sport of the time.
