The United States Capitol rotunda is the central rotunda of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Built between 1818 and 1824, the Rotunda was designed by Charles Bulfinch.
The Rotunda is used for important ceremonial events as authorized by concurrent resolution, including the lying in state of eminent citizens.
The Rotunda is located below the Capitol dome.
The Rotunda's ceiling features a fresco painting titled 'The Apotheosis of Washington'.
