United States Capitol Crypt, Crypt in United States Capitol.
The United States Capitol crypt is a large circular room filled with 40 Doric columns made from sandstone, which support the floor of the Rotunda.
Originally intended to be the final resting place for George Washington, the crypt now serves as a museum and a thoroughfare for tourists.
The crypt contains important artifacts and statues representing the thirteen original states.
The crypt is located on the ground floor of the Capitol, directly beneath the Rotunda.
The star in the center of the floor marks the point from which the streets in Washington D.C. are laid out and numbered.
