Columbia Icefield, Glacier in the Canadian Rockies
The Columbia Icefield is a surviving remnant of the thick ice mass that once mantled most of Western Canada's mountains.
Laid down during a series of glaciations dating back up to two million years, it feeds eight major glaciers.
The Icefield has been one of the most important tourist attractions in the Canadian Rockies since the early 20th century.
Visitors can explore the Icefield with specially designed snow coaches or by foot on guided hikes.
It is the largest ice field in the Rocky Mountains.
