Gardens of Versailles
Gardens of Versailles, Gardens in France
The Gardens of Versailles occupy part of what was once the Domaine royal de Versailles, the royal demesne of the château of Versailles.
Designed by André Le Nôtre, construction of the gardens began in 1661 and took nearly 40 years to complete.
The gardens are known for their geometrically aligned terraces, tree-lined paths and ponds.
The gardens are open to the public and offer guided tours.
They are one of the most visited sites in France, attracting millions of tourists each year.
