Hekatompedon temple, Temple in Greece
The Hekatompedon Temple was the precursor to the Parthenon, located on the Acropolis of Athens.
Built in the 6th century BC, it is considered the earliest large temple on the Acropolis.
Its name, meaning 'one hundred feet long', suggests its impressive original size.
Today, much of the temple remains unexcavated and obscured by later Parthenon construction.
