Mt. Nantai, Sacred mountain in Japan
Mount Nantai is a stratovolcano in the Nikko National Park in central Honshu, the main island of Japan.
The mountain has been considered sacred and was forbidden to women until 1872.
It is an important object of worship for the Futarasan Shrine nearby and is thought to have been worshipped by humans since the Jomon period.
The mountain is a popular site for hiking, with a number of trails leading to the summit.
Its name means 'man's body' and it is considered the body of the deity enshrined at Futarasan Shrine.
