Laguna de Canaima
Laguna de Canaima, Lagoon in Venezuela
The Canaima Lagoon is surrounded by waterfalls including the famous Angel Falls.
This area was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
Indigenous communities, such as the Pemon, have deep cultural ties with the Canaima National Park.
Access to the lagoon is mainly by air or through river excursions.
The lagoon's waters appear red due to the high content of tannins from surrounding vegetation.
